G3 Anglesey Stakes win for Holy Roman colt
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Wilshire Boulevard (2c Holy Roman Emperor-Tyranny, by Machiavellian) put in a polished performance at the Curragh on Saturday evening to win the G3 Anglesey Stakes.
The Holy Roman Emperor colt, a sibling to Zoffany bred by Denis Brosnan, saw off stablemate Oklahoma City by three-quarters of a length in the six-furlong contest to give his sire yet another Group success.
“We always liked this horse a lot. He is a nice horse and he wouldn’t mind going a bit further than this,” said O’Brien. “We left the hood off him today and he settled well. He is well-bred and he is a half-brother to Zoffany. The Holy Roman Emperors seem to improve.”
Jockey Seamie Heffernan added: “He’s been showing us plenty at home and wasn’t beaten too far at Ascot, so this wasn’t a surprise. I was in a great position and his experience stood him in good stead in an honest race.”
