Group Aim For Calyx Colt After Third Win
Nellie Leylax (2c Calyx - Lovelocks, by High Chaparral) will step up in class after gaining his third win from five starts at Haydock on Sunday.
Tom Dascombe’s charge shaped like a smart prospect when winning on debut and impressed last time out in a Class 2 at Doncaster. Sent off favourite on Sunday, he pressed the leader under Pierre-Louis Jamin and asserted before the two furlong pole. Staying on well inside the final furlong, he led by a length and a half on the line.
Nellie Leylax is owned by Millenial Racing, whose member Craig Burkert later said, “It's a brilliant experience as he's the first horse we've owned. We could own another 20 and might not get one as good. He's entered in the Champagne at Doncaster and if the ground is soft we'll give it a go – why not?”
The progressive colt was bred by Glenvale Stud and Edgeridge Ltd out of a full-sister to the highly-rated Jacobean (High Chaparral). His freshman sire Calyx is currently represented by an impressive trio of Group 2 performers in Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes heroine Persian Dreamer, Norfolk Stakes runner-up Malc and the twice Group-placed Classic Flower.
