Holy Roman 2yo stars in Ascot G3
Maureen (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Exotic Mix, by Linamix) marked herself one of the best juvenile fillies seen in Britain this year when running out an effortless winner of the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
Richard Hannon’s charge had easily won a Newbury maiden on her debut and headed to Ascot on the back of a very unlucky second in Newmarket’s G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes.
Jockey Richard Hughes did not need to dog too deep aboard the Holy Roman Emperor filly, who was bred by C McEvoy, to score by two and a quarter lengths.
"I know people have said she’s small, but she's a good mover and a good-looking filly," Hannon's son and assistant, Richard jr, told PA Sport. "If she is just a two-year-old, she’s one of the best two-year-olds around. She’ll probably go on to the G2 Lowther Stakes (at York) and then the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes (at Newmarket)."
