Roman Hands (Holy Roman Emperor) Wins His Maiden At Galway

Holy Roman Emperor Colt Battles For Galway Maiden Victory

The improving Roman Hands (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Rhigolter Rose, by Leroidesanimaux) displayed an admirable attitude to win Friday’s seven furlong maiden at the Galway Festival.

Runner-up to Lakota Seven (Sioux Nation) on his second start, the Jessica Harrington-trained colt was partnered by Shane Foley once again on Friday and raced prominently throughout. Ridden to lead approaching the two furlong marker, he was headed inside the final furlong, but battled back to lead in the shadow of the post.

“Roman Hands was tough out,” assistant trainer Kate Harrington said after the race. “As soon as the other horse came to him he just wanted to battle and he keeps improving.”

Owned by the Australian-based Champion Thoroughbreds, the son of Holy Roman Emperor was bred by Rathbarry Stud out of a half-sister to Stakes performer Impendor (Holy Roman Emperor).
