Holy Roman Emperor Colt Impresses On Second Start
Keepupwithmyempire (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Elaysa, by Shamardal) shaped like a smart prospect when running out a clear winner at Naas on Saturday.
The Jessica Harrington-trained bay finished a promising third on debut behind subsequent Windsor Castle Stakes winner Little Big Bear (No Nay Never) and was sent off joint second favourite as he stepped up to six furlongs. Chasing the leaders under Shane Foley, he improved into second approaching the final furlong and was soon pushed along to lead. Ridden clear, he ran on strongly to win by four lengths, with the same margin separating the second and third horses.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Kate Harrington said, “Keepupwithmyempire quickened up well and will improve for some nicer ground. He's a lovely horse and he stepped forward nicely from his first run.”
On future plans, she added, “He holds an entry in the Ballyhane here, that's at the beginning of August so he could easily go straight there because it's such a big pot and then step up into Group company.”
Bought by BBA Ireland as a yearling for €90,000, Keepupwithmyempire is owned by Alpha Racing and was bred by Peter and Hugh McCutcheon.
