Holy Roman Emperor Colt Makes All To Group 3 Success
Geography (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Guajara, by Montjeu) made all to gain a first black-type success in Sunday’s Group 3 Preis des Winterfavoriten at Cologne.
The Peter Schiergen-trained colt emerged as an exciting prospect in August, when bolting up by nine lengths on debut, and stepped up to a mile in Sunday’s feature. Shaken up approaching the two furlong pole, the bay dug deep under pressure close home to deny Narrativo by a neck. The pair battled four lengths clear of the favourite in third.
“I didn’t really want to go to the front,” the winning rider later revealed. “It wasn’t the plan to do so, but we got off to a fast start and nobody wanted to take the lead. He just did it all by himself - he has a lot of heart.”
On future plans, Peter Schiergen added, “He’s going on winter break now and we’ll see whether or not he’ll be one of the leading stayers in the future.”
Owned by Stall Hanse, Geography was sold by breeder Gestut Fahrhof as a yearling for €95,000. The son of Holy Roman Emperor becomes the first Stakes winner out of the black-type Montjeu mare Guajara.
