Holy Roman Emperor Colt Scores On Debut At The Curragh
Roman Turbo (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Swish, by Monsun) made a perfect start to his racing career when winning the Barronstown Stud Irish EBF Maiden on debut at the Curragh.
Racing over six furlongs, the Michael Halford-trained colt chased the leaders under Ronan Whelan and was switched right to challenge two furlongs from home. Making good headway, he led inside the final furlong and held off the fast-finishing Papa Bear by half a length.
Commenting on the winner, Halford later said, “Roman Turbo was second in a barrier trial and he's a very professional and straightforward colt. I would say he's fairly smart and we'll step up now.”
Bought by McKeever Bloodstock for €55,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale, Roman Turbo won in the colours of Sammy Hon Kit Ma. He is a half-brother to Listed winner Swacadelic, out of an unraced full-sister to top-class stayer Shirocco.
Holy Roman Emperor commands €15,000 this season.
