Holy Roman Emperor Filly Doubles Up In Game Fashion

Bella Blue Eyes (3f Holy Roman Emperor – Wells Present, by Cadeaux Genereux) earned a step up in class when following up last month’s maiden win with a game victory at Killarney.

Placed on her first two starts, the Paddy Twomey-trained bay beat a Group 1 performer when winning a Leopardstown maiden last time out, with the race having since produced two winners. Sent off second favourite against colts on Monday, she was ridden prominently by Billy Lee and pushed along to lead after the two furlong pole. Ridden when challenged approaching the final furlong, she was headed soon after, but battled back to lead on the line.

“She was tough,” Twomey later commented. “It was great she won and I would have been disappointed if she had got beat. Hopefully we'll step up in grade now.”

Bella Blue Eyes is owned by Edward Walsh, having been bought as a foal for 85,000gns. The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor is a full-sister to Group 1 heroine Well Times.
