Holy Roman Emperor Filly Impresses In Italian 1,000 Guineas
Swipe Up (3f Holy Roman Emperor - Salmon Rose, by Iffraaj) ran out an impressive winner of the Italian 1,000 Guineas at Capanelle, where she led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires.
Trained by EC Racing Stable for Scuderia Sagam, the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor was ridden patiently by Claudio Colombi and was angled out to challenge three furlongs from home. Ridden to lead a furlong and a half out, she soon drew clear and was pushed out to score by five lengths- the widest winning margin since 1988. Nonna Ercolina (Holy Roman Emperor) claimed runners-up honours, with just half a length back to the Group 2 winning favourite Atamisque (Highland Reel) in third.
Speaking after the race, owner Maurizio Dainotto said, “We had no horses for almost 30 years, but our love for this game is something special. A Classic win just two years after I came back is simply unbelievable. Plans for the future are in the hand of the trainers.”
Swipe Up was last seen running out an easy winner of the Premio Ceprano, a traditional trial for the Classic. Bred by George Kent, she becomes a 50th individual Group winner by Holy Roman Emperor.
