Holy Roman Emperor is champion 2yo sire

After a fantastic year on the racecourse, Holy Roman Emperor finished 2011 as Europe’s champion sire of two-year-olds with progeny earnings of £891,923.

Among his flagbearers were the Aidan O’Brien-trained Homecoming Queen (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Lagrion, by Diesis), a runaway winner of the Listed Lanwades Stud and Staffordstown Stakes at the Curragh.

My Propeller (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Incise, by Dr Fong), trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam for Joey Barton, won the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes at York’s Ebor meeting while An Ghalanta (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Alamanta, by Ali-Royal) took the Listed thetote.com Curragh Stakes at the Curragh.

Other star two-year-olds included the Andrew Balding-trained Charles The Great (2c Holy Roman Emperor-Jojeema, by Barathea), winner of the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury, and the Brian Meehan-trained Mehdi (2c Holy Roman Emperor-College Fund Girl, by Kahyasi) who won the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Stakes at Newmarket.

It was also a good year for Holy Roman Emperor’s three-year-olds, led by Banimpire (3f Holy Roman Emperor-My Renee, by Kris S) who was saddled by Jim Bolger to win the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and finish runner-up in the G1 Irish Oaks. She was subsequently sold for €2.3 million at the Goffs November Sale.

His yearlings were also hot properties at the sales with prices of €190,000, €155,000 and €140,000 etc.
