Impact Warrior (Saxon Warrior) Makes A Winning Debut at Roscommon

Million In Mind For Saxon Warrior’s Latest Winner

Impact Warrior (2f Saxon Warrior - Lina De Vega, by Lope De Vega) justified Group entries when making a winning debut in Monday’s seven furlong contest at Roscommon.

The Paddy Twomey-trained newcomer was sent off favourite, with her rivals including previous winner Goa Gajah, and raced prominently throughout under Billy Lee. Travelling best when producing a challenge two furlongs out, she was shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong and kept on well to score by half a length, with another six lengths back to the third.

“I think she is a nice filly,” Paddy Twomey said after the race. “She is in the Goffs Million and that is a logical target for her. I have her in the Fillies Mile and the Marcel Boussac — that closes tomorrow.”

Saxon Warrior’s promising start at stud has been reflected in the sales ring, with his two-year-olds selling for at the breeze-up sales. That demand continued at the first European yearling sale of the year, with Yohea going to €250,000 for a quality filly at the Arqana August Yearling Sale.

Anna Sundstrom offered the bay under her Coulonces banner, with the filly in question bred by Sundstrom’s parents out of black-type performer Castle Of May.
