Oaks Next for Mastercraftsman Filly
Exciting prospect Luvaluva (3f Mastercraftsman x Wansesingyee, by Galileo) showed she was on track for next week’s Group I ATC Australian Oaks with a slashing win under 60kg in the Group III ATC Adrian Knox Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
A lightly raced daughter of Mastercraftsman, Luvaluva was fourth in the Group I VRC Oaks in the spring but looks ready to improve on that next week after storming to a head win in the 2000 metres staying test for Kerrin McEvoy.
“I think we have a good one here,” said her trainer John Sargent.
“I think he (McEvoy) might have waited a bit longer, but obviously he thought he had to get going with the big weight. She was there to be beaten up the straight, but she went to the line strong.”
A $55,000 NZB Ready to Run purchase from the Surrey Farm draft for her trainer, Luvaluva has an interesting mix of speed and stamina in her pedigree as she is the first winner for unraced Galileo mare Wansesingyee, whose dam is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to sprinting stakes-winner Secret Flyer.
With four wins from 10 starts and prizemoney topping $500,000, Luvaluva is one of 46 stakes-winners for Mastercraftsman, a dashing grey son of Danehill Dancer that shuttled to New Zealand and has left seven Group I winners including English St Leger winner Kingston Hill.
