Progressive Calyx Colt Not For Catching In Doncaster Maiden
Clive Cox’s progressive colt How’s The Guvnor (2c Calyx - Blessing, by Pulpit) proved a class above his rivals in Thursday’s six furlong maiden at Doncaster.
The first crop son of Calyx caught the eye when finishing second last month, despite stumbling at a vital stage, and was sent off joint-favourite to go one better on Thursday. Making all under Richard Kingscote, he began to quicken clear approaching the final furlong and was eased down to win by three and a quarter lengths. 160,000gns breeze-up buy Classy Boy (Calyx) made a promising debut in third.
How’s The Guvnor is owned by Paul and Clare Rooney, having been bought by Kevin Ross Bloodstock for £90,000. Bred by Sir Robert Ogden, he continues an exciting start at stud by Calyx, whose first runners are led by Group 2 Norfolk Stakes second Malc (Calyx) and Group 3 Albany Stakes fourth Persian Dreamer (Calyx).
