Progressive Sioux Nation Filly Lands Listed Sprint
Oujda (4f Sioux Nation – La Conseillante, by Elusive Quality) confirmed herself a smart recruit for the Johnny Murtagh stable when landing the Listed Brigid’s Pastures Stakes at the Curragh.
Listed-placed in France early in the year, she made her first start for Murtagh in August and ran with credit in the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes over course and distance last weekend. Shane Foley rode the chesnut on Saturday and raced prominently throughout, improving into second with two furlongs left to race. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, she kept on well to beat Group performer Ano Syra by half a length.
“Oujda ran well here last week in a stronger race,” Foley later said. “I rode her a bit more forward today and she enjoyed it. She is a strong traveller and stays well. She had a good blow last week and was bound to improve.”
Owned by Mrs Orla Murtagh and bred by Haras du Grand Chene, the daughter of Sioux Nation is a half-sister to Group performer War Envoy.
