Son Of Sioux Nation Secures Group 3 Prize
Helene Feeling (5g Sioux Nation – Cynthia Calhoun, by Exceed And Excel) became the latest Stakes winner by his sire when landing the Group 3 January Cup at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
The Danny Shum-trained bay had finished third in last year’s renewal and went on to finish second in the valuable Hong Kong Classic Mile. He was partnered by Harry Bentley for the first time this week and raced towards the back of the field for much of the nine furlong contest. Making headway with three furlongs left to race, he was ridden approaching the two pole and raced wide entering the straight. He ran on gamely to lead 100 yards out, keeping on to beat last year’s winner Happy Together by half a length.
Helene Feeling is now a five-time winner for the Helene Syndicate in Hong Kong, adding to two previous wins in the UK. The son of Sioux Nation was bred by AV Bloodstock and Pat Connell.
