Promising Calyx Colt Draws Clear To Maiden Victory
The Ginger Wizard (3c Calyx – Fancy, by Galileo) proved a cut above his rivals in Saturday’s mile-and-a-half maiden at Tramore.
Placed on his two previous starts, the Hoseph O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite under Mikey Sheehy and raced in second for much of the way. Pushed along to lead after the two furlong pole, he was ridden clear inside the final furlong and went on to score by eight and a half lengths.
“He broke well from a wide draw and stayed galloping all the way to the line,” Sheehy said. “I thought he idled in front. I thought if I had something to aim at for longer he would have won even further.”
Bred by Longfield Stud, the €110,000 yearling buy is owned by Niall and Cathal Slevin.
