Promising Calyx Filly Delivers On Debut
Strong market support for Brazilian Rose (3f Calyx – Miss Brazil, by Exceed And Excel) proved well-founded on Thursday, as the Richard Hughes-trained newcomer made a perfect start in the fillies’ maiden at Lingfield.
The bay was sent off favourite under George Rooke and raced prominently throughout the seven furlong contest. Pushed clear approaching the final furlong, she appeared to tire, but held on to deny the well-backed Delicacy (Saxon Warrior) by a head.
The first crop daughter of Calyx is owned by Jaber Abdullah and was bred by Old Carhue Stud. She is a half-sister to dual Listed winner and Group 2 performer Elaire Noire (Footstepsinthesand).
