Promising Filly Another US Winner For Calyx
Ever So Sweet (2f Calyx - Shine, by Exceed And Excel) built on a promising debut to win Saturday’s six furlong maiden at Belmont at the Big A.
The Brad Cox-trained bay finished second at Saratoga on debut, with the winner subsequently finishing fourth in a Stakes race. Sent off favourite on Saturday, she boasted a clear advantage by the final furlong and kept on well to score by three parts of a length under Kendrick Carmouche. The front pair finished two and a quarter lengths clear of the third.
Ever So Sweet was bought by Clay Scherer at the Goffs Orby Sale for €150,000, with Scherer now owning the bay with Gregory Hoffman and RT Racing Stable. Bred by GHS Bloodstock and JC Bloodstock, she becomes the latest winner from the first crop of Calyx.
Calyx has made a smart start at stud, with his first juveniles led by Group 2 heroine Persian Dreamer, Group 2 Norfolk Stakes second Malc and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin third Classic Flower.
