Promising Son Of Calyx Draws Clear To Maiden Victory
Old Cock (3g Calyx – Love Potion, by Galileo) produced a smart performance to win his second start in Monday’s mile maiden at Ayr.
Ed Bethell’s charge had finished a promising fourth on debut earlier in the month and was sent off favourite as he switched to turf described as ‘good’ on Monday. Settled in second by Callum Rodriguez, the bay eased into the lead with two furlongs left to race and was pushed clear inside the final furlong. The winning margin was four and a quarter lengths, with another three and a quarter lengths back to the third horse.
Owned by Mr and Mrs David Aykroyd, Old Cock was bred by Mrs Sue Ann Foley out of the Galileo mare Love Potion. He hails from the first crop of Calyx and is bred on the same cross as Group 3 winner Persian Dreamer (Calyx) and Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes third Eben Shaddad (Calyx).
