Rich Tapestry takes Dubai feature for Holy Roman Emperor

Hong Kong star Rich Tapestry (8g Holy Roman Emperor-Genuine Charm, by Sadler´s Wells) put in a superlative front-running performance to win the feature G3 Al Shindgha Sprint at Meydan on Thursday evening.

Gerald Mosse took the lead early on in the six-furlong event and successfully held off a challenge from Muarrab to score by a length and a half. Last year’s winner Reynaldothewizard ran on to finish third.

Trained by Michael Chang, the eight-year-old made light work of what appeared a bad draw in eight.

“He is normally very quickly away so I was not that worried,” said Mosse. “He has so much natural speed I was able to get across to the rail and was always happy. I was able to give him a bit of a breather and he then quickened well when I asked him for his final effort.”

It was a second Dubai victory for Rich Tapestry, following the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal on Super Saturday in 2014, and the son of Holy Roman Emperor has also been placed in the last two G1 Golden Shaheens on Dubai World Cup night. Rich Tapestry, who was bred in Ireland by Moyglare Stud, also won the G1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship in Los Angeles in 2014

Meanwhile, Holy Roman Emperor was also making his mark at Goffs on Thursday thanks to Ebadan (3c Holy Roman Emperor-Ebareva, by Machiavellian). The Aga Khan’s home-bred was bought for €90,000 by Marc-Antoine Berghgracht to join Hall of Fame trainer Neil Drysdale in California.
