Saxon Warrior Colt Gains Stylish Maiden Win At Ascot
Buccabay (2c Saxon Warrior - Fifth Commandment, by Holy Roman Emperor) shaped like a smart prospect when running out a comfortable winner of Friday’s six furlong maiden at Ascot.
Eve Johnson Houghton’s charge was one of ten to line up for the race, which had previously been won by some smart types, including subsequent Stakes winners Mums Tipple (Footstepsinthesand), Mythical Magic and Growl. Ridden prominently by Charlie Bishop, he was shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong and was pushed out to win by a length and three quarters.
“I’m thrilled with Buccabay,” the winning trainer said. “I've always liked him, he just needs a bit of educating. He settled very well, picked up and I think these Saxon Warriors have a lovely turn of foot.”
Owned by the Buckingham Partnership, Buccabay was bred by John O’Connor out of the useful Holy Roman Emperor mare Fifth Commandment. Eve Johnson Houghton now has plenty of reason to like Saxon Warrior, with Rage Of Bamby (Saxon Warrior) having made a winning debut. Saxon Warrior’s promising first crop also includes impressive Leopardstown debutante Thornbrook (Saxon Warrior), dual winner Ser Sed (Saxon Warrior) and smart newcomer Killybegs Warrior (Saxon Warrior).
