Saxon Warrior Colt Makes All To Second Smart Success
Killybegs Warrior (2c Saxon Warrior - Alltherightmoves, by Namid) kicked off a successful Saturday at Newmarket for the Charlie and Mark Johnston team when running out a commanding winner under James Doyle.
The son of Saxon Warrior made a winning debut over course and distance in June, where he and the favourite drew clear of the field, and the form has since been boosted. A close third next time out, he was sent off favourite as the highest-rated contender on Saturday and made all of the running. Pushed along approaching the two furlong marker, he drew clear inside the final furlong to win by four lengths.
It kickstarted a treble on the cards for the Johnston team, who won the following race with Madame Ambassador (Churchill) and landed the Group 3 feature with Lakota Sioux (Sioux Nation).
A step up in class may now be on the cards for Killybegs Warrior, who holds entries in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and Group 1 National Stakes. Owned by M Doyle, he was bred by Glashare House Stud, who sold him as a foal for 100,000gns.
Saxon Warrior has made a bright start at stud, though he himself did not debut until late August of his two-year-old career, during which he remained unbeaten with Group 2 and Group 1 wins. Later triumphant in the 2,000 Guineas, the son of Deep Impact has so far been represented by impressive Leopardstown newcomer Thornbrook, smart maiden winner Gan Teorainn, Ascot victor Buccabay, dual winner Ser Sed and debut scorer Rage Of Bamby.
