Saxon Warrior Colt Strikes On Second Start
Keeper’s Heart (2c Saxon Warrior - Sonning Rose, by Hawk Wing) built on last month’s debut second to justify favouritism at Dundalk on Friday evening.
The Ger Lyons-trained colt was sent off favourite for the mile maiden and broke smartly from a wide draw to race prominently under Colin Keane. Travelling well with two furlongs left to race, he led approaching the final furlong and kept on well when asked to win by a length and a half.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Shane Lyons said, “He was there to be shot at turning into the straight, green and all as we thought he would be. His class came to the fore and he stuck it out well. It is great to get two runs into him and to be able to put him away.”
Keeper’s Heart was bought by Gaelic Bloodstock as a foal for €105,000 and is now owned by David Spratt, Sean Jones and Mrs Lynne Lyons. Bred by Mrs Eleanor Commins, he hails from the second crop of Saxon Warrior.
