Saxon Warrior Juvenile Off The Mark At HQ
A step up in trip proved just the trick for Lady Wulfrun (2f Saxon Warrior - Good Hope, by Cape Cross) as the promising filly gained a maiden victory at Newmarket.
The Andrew Balding-trained bay progressed to take third last time out and was sent off favourite when stepping up to seven furlongs on Saturday. Racing in touch under William Buick, she improved to lead from two furlongs out and was ridden out to win by a neck, with another three lengths back to the third.
Bred by the late Queen Elizabeth, Lady Wulfrun is owned by His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen. She hails from the second crop of Saxon Warrior, whose first runners include four Group winners and another four Group performers. These are led by Grade 1 scorer Victoria Road and Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac runner-up Gan Teorainn.
