Second Stakes Success Of The Week For Sioux Nation
Lakota Sioux (2f Sioux Nation - Shemiyla, by Dalakhani) became Sioux Nation’s second Group winner of the week when taking the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.
Charlie and Mark Johnston’s charge won her maiden by six and a half lengths in May and went on to finish third in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she was the sole filly in the field. The bay was sent off second favourite on Saturday and raced prominently throughout the seven furlong contest under James Doyle. Pushed along from the two furlong pole, she was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong and stayed on well to score by three parts of a length.
Lakota Sioux is owned by Gallop Racing, whose representative Richard Walker said, “We're in dreamland.”
Bred by Fethard Bloodstock, Lakota Sioux may now make a further step up in class, as she holds an entry in next month’s Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. Now a 33/1 shot for the 1,000 Guineas, she hails from the first crop of Sioux Nation, whose daughter Sydneyarms Chelsea captured the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections on Tuesday.
