Sioux Nation Colt Draws Comparisons To Wootton Bassett

Richard Fahey compared Native American (2c Sioux Nation - Pencarrow, by Green Desert) to Wootton Bassett after his talented charge made it two from two at the Curragh on Sunday.

The son of Sioux Nation bolted up on debut at York, with the impressive performance seeing him subsequently purchased privately by Wathnan Racing. He was sent off favourite for the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes, despite having not run since May, and raced in touch for much of the way under Colin Keane. Improving with over two furlongs left to race, he was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong and drew clear to score by two and a half lengths. Mercian Warrior (Saxon Warrior), Clarita (Calyx) and Vestigia (Footstepsinthesand) chased him home in that order.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “We won some sales races with Wootton Bassett and he ended up winning the Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere. That was in my mind before the race so we’ll see how he is and decide whether he goes or not.”

Bred by Patricia Casement and Dr Dean Harron, Native American was sold by Edmond Ryan’s Weir View Stud as a yearling for €75,000. The unbeaten colt hails from the second crop of exciting young sire Sioux Nation, who has seven Group winners and another four Stakes winners to his name.
