Sioux Nation Colt Shapes Like Smart Prospect At Windsor

A step up in class may be on the cards for Shagraan (2c Sioux Nation - Annie Fior, by Finsceal Fior) after the Clive Cox-trained colt ran out an impressive winner on his second start at Windsor.

The son of Sioux Nation was well-supported in the market for the Novice Stakes over six furlongs and disputed the lead for much of the race under William Cox. Ridden to assert a furlong from home, he ran on strongly to score by three lengths and three quarters. The favourite was relegated to runners-up honours, just a neck in front of promising newcomer Mercian Warrior (Saxon Warrior).

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He's taken a big step forward from his Haydock run and he showed a bit of class. Windsor is a nice, sharp track and he was always travelling smoothly and picked up really well. We thought he was a horse who could run in a decent grade and he's shown that there.”

Cox added that there was more to come from Shagraan, who carries the colours of Al Mohamediya Racing. Bought by Cox as a yearling for £80,000, the son of Sioux Nation is the first foal bred by Brendan and Anthony Murphy out of Annie Fior. The mare has a yearling full-sister to the winner.
