Sioux Nation Filly Excites In Curragh Maiden
Sioux Nation’s fantastic season continued on Saturday when Small Oasis (2f Sioux Nation - Collegiate, by Declaration Of War) ran out an impressive winner of the six furlong maiden at the Curragh.
Trained by Michael Grassick for John Nolan, the bay finished a promising third on debut nine days earlier and showed the benefit of experience when racing prominently on her second start. Shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong, she soon quickened clear and was pushed out to score by four lengths and three quarters, as a 90-rated rival claimed runners-up honours.
Grassick later described Small Oasis as “exciting,” and clearly held his charge in some regard when entering her in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. The first crop daughter of Sioux Nation was bred by Scarlett Knipe out of Collegiate.
