Sioux Nation Filly Impresses On Curragh Debut
Matilda Picotte (2f Sioux Nation - Hallie’s Comet, by One Cool Cat) shaped like a Stakes performer when making an impressive debut at the Curragh on Monday.
The Kieran Cotter-trained bay was ridden to make all in the six furlong maiden by Declan McDonogh, who pushed her along approaching the final furlong to extend her advantage. Eased down close home, she won by a comfortable two lengths with another three and a quarter lengths back to the third.
“We always thought a lot of her,” Cotter later commented. “Declan feels that she is a stakes filly and we might come back here for the Marble Hill. She has loads of pace & stamina as well which is what good horses usually do.”
Bred by Mighty Universe Ltd, Matilda Picotte becomes a fourth winner by Sioux Nation, each having impressed on debut. Ocean Quest (Sioux Nation) won the first maiden of the season at the Curragh, while Brave Nation (Sioux Nation) drew six lengths clear at Doncaster and Bakeel (Sioux Nation) beat two previous winners in the Royal Ascot Two-Year-Old Trial.
