Sioux Nation’s Latest Winner to Target Windsor Castle Stakes
Andy Slattery was full of praise for Powerful Nation (2c Sioux Nation – Atlantic Queen, by Society Rock) after justifying favouritism in Tuesday’s five furlong maiden at Cork.
The Sioux Nation colt showed signs of inexperience when beaten just a short head on debut earlier this month, but showed the benefit of that experience on Tuesday. Racing prominently under Andrew Slattery, he asserted approaching the final furlong and was ridden out to score by a head.
“I think he is a very good horse,” the winning trainer said. “I'll get him another run before going for the Windsor Castle Stakes as he was doing nothing only looked around. He had 9st 6lb on his back and was giving a stone-and-a-half to some, so he is a fair horse.”
Powerful Nation was bred by Kevin Walsh, who owns the bay with sons Sean and Tommy.
