Smart New Stakes Winner By Sioux Nation

Sioux Life (2f Sioux Nation - Ninepins, by Rip Van Winkle) added to Sioux Nation’s growing list of Stakes winners when justifying favouritism in the Listed Premio Gino E Luciano Mantovani at San Siro.

Stepping up to seven furlongs on her second start, the Endo Botti-trained filly broke smartly under Dario Vargiu and was full of running on the turn for home. Quickening smartly when asked, she was eased down to score by two and a half lengths, as stablemate Beauty Of Tuscany (Starspangledbanner) finished second.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “I was riding her for the first time and she won like a very promising filly. She is very relaxed and I think she will be a very interesting filly this autumn.”

Owned by La Tes Spa, Sioux Life becomes the first black-type performer bred by Allevamento Le Gi Srl Societa’ Agricola out of the mare Ninepins. She hails from the second crop of Sioux Nation, for whom she becomes a ninth individual Stakes winner.

Sioux Nation enjoyed another second crop winner later that evening at Ffos Las, where Labalaba (2c Sioux Nation - Intelectuelle, by Intello) made all to run out a stylish winner of the six furlong maiden.

The £210,000 breeze-up buy finished a promising second on debut last month and was sent off favourite to go one better under Kevin Stott. Pushed out inside the final furlong, he led by a length on the line.

Labalaba is owned by Daij Al Khalifa and Khalifa Aldoseri, having been purchased by Stroud Coleman at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale. The son of Sioux Nation was bred by Alban Chevalier Du Fau and Laurent Benoit.
