Smart Son Of Calyx Gets Off The Mark In Style
The highly-rated Skipper (3g Calyx – Skipinnish, by Exceed And Excel) gained a deserved success in Thursday’s mile maiden at Chelmsford.
Tom Clover’s charge received an official rating of 92 after showing promise on all three of his career starts, and was sent off favourite to get off the mark on Thursday. Racing prominently under Jack Mitchell, the bay was shaken up approaching the two furlong pole and was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. He ran on well to score by a length and a quarter, going away, as Group performer Dancing Magic (Camelot) claimed runners-up honours.
The second crop son of Calyx was bred by Lawn Stud and carries the colours of Julian Richmond-Watson.
