Son Of Calyx Flies To Maiden Victory
The promising Project Geofin (2g Calyx - Bond Artist, by Excellent Art) flew home to win the six furlong Novice Stakes at Newcastle on Thursday evening.
Geoff Oldroyd’s charge made an eye-catching debut in May and produced another promising performance next time out, with both runs coming under Thursday’s rider Harry Russell. Racing at the back of the field, the son of Calyx was last with a furlong left to race and produced a smart turn of foot to storm past his rivals and lead on the line.
Owned and bred by Bond Thoroughbred Limited, Project Geofin continues an exciting start at stud by Calyx, whose first crop is headlined by Group 2 heroine Persian Dreamer. Responsible for another two Group 2 performers, the top-class sprinter appears to have another Stakes horse in waiting, judging by Purple Lilly’s impressive debut on Tuesday.
