Son Of Holy Roman Emperor Makes All To Win At HQ

The Andrew Balding-trained Carolus Magnus (3g Holy Roman Emperor - Izola, by Beat Hollow) shaped like a smart prospect when landing Tuesday’s seven furlong maiden at Newmarket.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor made a promising debut at Doncaster last month, when he finished third, and faced on of his previous rivals on his second start. He made all under Oisin Murphy, quickening from three furlongs out and was pushed out to win by a length and three quarters. He reversed the form with the third Lexington Knight, as the well-bred Magical Land finished between them.

Balding clearly has high hopes for the winner, later saying, “We won this race a few years ago with a horse called Balducci and he's a very similar horse to him. He ended up in the Britannia and Silver Bowl at Haydock and we could consider similar races.”

Owned by Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds, Carolus Magnus was bred by Peter and Hugh McCutcheon.
