Son Of Sioux Nation Strikes In Group 3 Sprint

Saturday saw Archo Nacho (3g Sioux Nation - Jackpot Queen, by Not A Single Doubt) gain his second Stakes success in the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The Matt Laurie-trained chesnut beat a talented field in the Poseidon Stakes last month and enjoyed a form boost when the third horse King’s Gambit won a Group 2 next time out. Sent off favourite for the six furlong sprint, he chased the pace under Mark Zahra and was switched out to challenge on the turn for home. He ran on strongly to lead inside the final furlong and was pushed out to win by half a length from fellow Stakes winner Maharba (Pride Of Dubai), while Don’t Hope Do (So You Think) finished third.

“I had a very economical run,” the winning rider commented. “I spent nothing. Just needed to squeeze through the gap at the right time. He’s a pretty talented horse and he was strong at the end.”

Bred by P Johnson, Archo Nacho has now won three of his five career starts for Laurie, Miss KA Brideoake and the Carringbush Park Syndicate. He hails from Sioux Nation’s sole Southern Hemisphere crop and becomes his sire’s ninth individual Group winner.
