Whiskeywealth (Yeats) Wins The Listed Chase At Gowran

Son Of Yeats Lands Listed Chase

The in-form Whiskeywealth (8g Yeats - Quiet Thought, by Bob Back) produced a career-best performance to win Saturday’s Listed chase at Gowran Park.

Successful over hurdles last time out, the Terence O’Brien-trained bay was sent off favourite for the two mile contest worth €45,000. Racing prominently under John Shinnick, he disputed at the third last and was pushed along approaching the final fence. Ridden to lead on the run-in, he ran on well to win by a length and three quarters, as the front pair drew seven lengths clear of the third.

“He was in great form coming here and I was hoping he’d run a good race,” O’Brien later said. “He’s been very consistent, and we’re delighted to get a good pot. He’s still improving and that was a career best over fences.”

Saturday marked a fifth career win for the son of Yeats, who is owned by Eamonn Hickey and Ger Finn. He becomes the second black-type performer bred by Ms C Corrigan and Tom Conway out of Quiet Thought, with half-sister Fortuna Ligna (Soldier Of Fortune) having placed at Listed level.
