Spangled Stars in Doncaster G3
Spangled (4f Starspangledbanner-Zykina, by Pivotal) produced a fine performance to land the G3 Sceptre Stakes for trainer Roger Varian at Doncaster on Friday.
The Starspangledbanner filly, who was home-bred by Cheveley Park Stud, battled well to score under Andrea Atzeni to the delight of trainer Roger Varian.
"She's a good-looking and big filly," said Varian. “I'm happy for Cheveley Park Stud (owners) who have been very patient.
"We've always thought the world of this filly so it's great she's won a nice race like this. I think the straight seven furlongs, flat track and drying ground seem to help. She's obviously in good form and she's showed real guts to last home. I really enjoyed that race.”
Atzeni also paid tribute to the winner.
“It was a very strong renewal of the race with horses like Nemoralia and Lumiere in it but she is obviously getting better and I think she will get better as she gets older,” said the rider. “Spangled deserved it and we have always thought a lot of her.”
