Spangler (2c Starspangledbanner - Sixpenny Sweets, by Dalakhani) emerged as a smart prospect when justifying strong market support at Leicester on debut.

The Hughie Morrison-trained newcomer overcame a slow start to chase the leaders and made good headway to lead two furlongs from home. Ridden to go clear a furlong later, the grey ran on well to win by three and a quarter lengths in comfortable fashion.

Owned by Martin Hughes and Michael Kerr-Dineen, Spangler was bred by Rockhart Trading and is a half-brother to the highly-rated Contrive (Mastercraftsman).
