Step Up In Class Next For Sioux Nation’s Latest Winner
Friday saw pricey breeze-up purchase Gunzburg (2f Sioux Nation - Minnelli, by Showcasing) justify favouritism in the five furlong maiden at Down Royal.
The daughter of Sioux Nation made a promising start for Paddy Twomey and owner Alymer Stud when finishing fourth at the Curragh to Matrika, who subsequently finished second in the Group 3 Albany Stakes, while the third later won. Dropping back to five furlongs on her second start, she was sent off favourite under Billy Lee and raced prominently throughout. Pushed along approaching the final furlong, she was ridden to lead inside the final furlong and ran on well to win by three parts of a length.
“I was delighted with the progress today,” the winning trainer later said. “I think she is stakes class, and we will hopefully look for a stakes race for her in the coming weeks.”
Twomey and Avenue Bloodstock bought Gunzburg for £160,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale, where she was offered by Gary Bloodstock on behalf of breeder Grace Nagle.
