US Stakes-Winner for Holy Roman
Scoring her first Black Type success on the weekend was Smartys Emperoress (5m Holy Roman Emperor x I’ll Get Along, by Smile), who captured the $75,000 Lightning City Stakes at Tampa.
The well bred Smartys Emperoress was making her first start since being bought back for $195,000 at Keeneland January and rewarded connections with a tenacious nose win in the five furlong turf sprint.
Trained for this race by James Spicknall after her regular trainer Eric Reed elected to send her to Florida, Smartys Emperoress did best in a blanket finish and has the overall record of four wins and three placings from 12 starts with prizemoney in excess of $130,000.
She is a half-sister to Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones and is the second stakes-winner for her stakes-winning dam I’ll Get Along.
Smartys Emperoress is the 22nd stakes-winner for Holy Roman Emperor.
