Well Bred Colt Continues Strong Demand For Saxon Warrior
A beautifully-bred colt from the first crop of Saxon Warrior saw BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe dig deep, as he went to €540,000 to secure Lot 397 from Ballyhimikin Stud at the Goffs Orby Sale.
Bred by Trevor Stewart, the May-born colt is the 15th produce of top-class sprinter and blue hen mare Cassandra Go. Her four black-type progeny included Grade 3 heroine Theann (Rock Of Gibraltar), herself the dam of dual Grade 1 winner Photo Call (Galileo) and Group 2 scorer Land Force (No Nay Never), as well as top-class race mare Halfway To Heaven, herself the dam of champions Magical (Galileo) and Rhododendron (Galileo).
Saxon Warrior began his stallion career at a covering fee of €30,000, which produced an impressive average price of €150,700 at Goffs. His first offering of the sale, a colt out of Prix de l’Abbaye heroine Gilt Edge Girl, sold from Oaks Farm Stables to MV Magnier for €270,000.
Mountarmstrong Stud sent Stakes performer Online Alexander to Saxon Warrior and were reward on Tuesday when Daithi Harvey and Highland Yard went to €200,000 to secure the resulting bay filly.
Other purchasers of Saxon Warrior’s first yearlings over the two days included Meridian International, Mark Johnston, Paddy Twomey and Johnny Collins’ Brown Island Stables.
