Wootton Bassett Filly Flies Home In Prix Saint Alary
The progressive Incarville (3f Wootton Bassett - Ilhabela, by Azamour) ran home strongly to secure Group 1 honours in the Saxon Warrior Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp on Monday.
Ridden patiently by Christophe Soumillon, the David Smaga-trained grey was switched right to challenge three furlongs from home and produced a good turn of foot passing the two furlong marker. Running on strongly, she got up close home to deny long-time leader Cirona (Maxios) in the shadow of the post.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “I'm so happy, it's been a long time since I won a Group 1 and I want to thank Gerard Augustin-Normand for his support. Besides her first run when she was unplaced, this filly has never run a bad race. Christophe Soumillon gave her a great ride and we will be back in four weeks' time for the Prix de Diane.”
Incarville has, indeed, been wonderfully consistent for connections; recording back-to-back wins last season and claimed runners-up honours in two Group contests on her only previous starts this season. Owned by Gerard Augustin-Normand and bred by Naji Nahas, she boasts a pedigree rich in top-class performers, including Grange Stud recruit Vadamos.
She becomes a fourth individual top-flight winner by sire sensation Wootton Bassett and is part of an exciting bunch of three-year-olds that also includes Group 2 scorer Chindit (Wootton Bassett).
