Sioux Nation

Sioux Nation followed No Nay Never as the second son of Scat Daddy to win the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes and he then went on to win the Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes. He added another Group victory in the Gr.3 Lacken Stakes over six furlongs, as a 3YO. Sioux Nation has made a very solid start for a stallion whose fee was €10,000 before his progeny began to race. His first crop has produced seven Group winners and his smaller second crop already has two Group-winning 2YO colts. Consequently, his third-crop yearlings have sold for up to €310,000.

DANZIG is back in the fifth generation of Sioux Nation’s foals. He already has a Gr.3 winner with a 2nd dam by DANEHILL, his Gr.2-winning son Brave Emperor has a dam by HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, while his 2YO Gr.3 winner Indian Run is out of a DANEHILL DANCER mare. He also has a Group-placed colt with a dam by KODIAC.

Grand-daughters of DANEHILL have been working well with No Nay Never. The DANEHILL stallions included EXCEED AND EXCEL (broodmare sire of Gr.1 winners Ten Sovereigns and Madame Pommery), ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (Gr.2 scorer Land Force), FASTNET ROCK (Gr.2 NZ winner Need I Say More). No Nay Never’s multiple Gr.1-winning daughter Alcohol Free is out of a grand-daughter of Danzig, by HARD SPUN, who also sired the dam of Sioux Nation’s Group-placed daughter Kinta.

GREEN DESERT will be back in the fourth generation of Sioux Nation’s foals, and inbreeding to this influential stallion is already playing its part in Sioux Nation’s success. The Group-winning fillies Sydneyarms Chelsea and Ocean Quest are both inbred 3x3 to OASIS DREAM, and so is the Gr.2-placed 2YO Gunzburg. Ocean Jewel is inbred 4x2 to GREEN DESERT and Behind Enemy Lines is inbred 4x3.

Fast horses from the NUREYEV line could suit as THEATRICAL sired the 2nd dam of Gr.1 winner Ten Sovereigns, while PIVOTAL filled the same position in the pedigree of Blackbeard.

Scat Daddy’s Gr.1 winners Lady Aurelia and Harmonize were inbred 4x3 to STORM CAT. Mares by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND, SHAMARDAL and LOPE DE VEGA could all reinforce Sioux Nation’s juvenile ability.

His classic-placed Gr.2 winner Matilda Picotte has a dam by Storm Cat’s son ONE COOL CAT and the Gr.2-placed Ashwiyaa is out of a grand-daughter of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY. La Gite, another Gr.2 winner by Sioux Nation, is inbred 4x4 to BLUEBIRD, a son of STORM BIRD.

MR PROSPECTOR line mares should suit, especially daughters of RAVEN’S PASS, IFFRAAJ and DUTCH ART. Sioux Nation already has Group winners from daughters of TAMAYUZ (by NAYEF) and TERTULLIAN (by MISWAKI). Other sons of Scat Daddy have sired the fast performers Ramatuelle and Tiber Flow from RAVEN’S PASS mares.

As Scat Daddy sired several good winners at around a mile and a quarter, headed by his magnificent 2018 American Triple Crown winner Justify, Sioux Nation is worth trying with mares by MONTJEU, HIGH CHAPARRAL and GALILEO. Mares by HIGH CHAPARRAL have produced three Group winners to No Nay Never, and Sioux Nation already has two black-type performers out of them. No Nay Never has Henry Adams and Midnight Mile, both 2YO Gr.3 winners, out of GALILEO mares. Justify sired the outstanding 2YO Gr.1 winners of 2023 Opera Singer and City of Troy from SADLER’S WELLS and GALILEO mares respectively.

The SHIRLEY HEIGHTS male line has quickly made its mark with Sioux Nation. The Gr.3 winner Lakota Sioux is Sioux Nation’s first runner out of a DALAKHANI mare and DARSHAAN sired the 2nd dam of Gr.3 winner Ocean Jewel.

The quick-maturing ROYAL APPLAUSE line, including his son ACCLAMATION and grandsons MEHMAS and DARK ANGEL, is well equipped to help Sioux Nation sire speedy 2yos, such as his 2023 Gr.3 winner Letsbefrankaboutit.
