Bumper Success For Well Bred Daughter Of Getaway

Seaton Carew (5m Getaway - Millys Gesture, by Milan) improved from her debut performance to run out a comfortable winner of the mares’ bumper at Wetherby on Tuesday.

The Jonjo O'Neill trained mare was first seen at Warwick in November, when she showed good promise in being beaten less than three lengths. Facing nine rivals now, she was ridden to track the leaders by Richie McLernon, who pressed her to take the lead approaching the two furlong pole. Running on well inside the final furlong, she scored by three and a quarter lengths.

Her trainer commented after the race, “Seaton Carew is a nice mare and had run a good race first time at Warwick, where she was a bit green. She may have another run in a bumper.”

Owned by Jon and Julia Aisbitt, Seaton Carew was bred by GCE Farm Ltd and is a half-sister to Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase victor Coney Island (Flemensfirth). Millys Gesture’s Walk In The Park colt foal sold to Aiden Murphy for €80,000 at last year’s November NH Sale at Tattersalls Ireland, while her colts by Kingston Hill and Leading Light made €32,000 and €30,000 respectively there a year prior.

Getaway has worked well with daughters of Milan, the cross also producing Grade 2 runner-up Talkischeap.
