Bumper Winner Kicks Off Impressive Double For Vadamos
Alcedo (4g Vadamos - Deliziosa, by Iffraaj) completed the first leg of a smart double for Vadamos on Wednesday when making an impressive debut in the bumper at Hereford.
Venetia Williams’ newcomer was well-supported for the two mile contest and was ridden in touch with the leaders by Charlie Deutsch. Travelling best of the field when leading from three furlongs out, he was pushed clear approaching the final furlong, before being eased down to score by an easy four and a quarter lengths.
Owned by P Davies, Alcedo was bred by Padraig O’Reilly out of a half-sister to Grade 3 winning hurdler Newberry New.
That evening at Dundalk, the promising Vadiana (3f Vadamos - Vassiana, by Anabaa) quickened clear to win the fillies’ maiden for Tracey Collins and owner/breeder Celbridge Estates.
The daughter of Vadamos finished a promising fourth on debut and improved to be narrowly denied by the more experienced Native Queen (No Nay Never) next time out. Stepping up to a mile on Wednesday, she raced in midfield under Ronan Whelan and began to make headway from two furlongs out. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, she skipped clear to beat the favourite by three and a quarter lengths.
“I'm not surprised she has done that, she's a filly we have always thought an awful lot about,” the winning trainer said after the race. “She is beautifully bred and I think she can step forward from here.”
