Class Trumps Experience As Vadamos Filly Scores At Longchamp
The Pascal Bary-trained Ranes (3f Vadamos - Ruby Slippers, by Sir Percy) shaped like a talented filly when winning her second start at Longchamp on Thursday afternoon.
The bay faced four previous winners, one of them a black-type performer, in the Prix de la Megisserie run over a mile and was ridden to track the leaders by Christophe Soumillon. Asserting a furlong and a half from home, she showed a willing attitude when joined by the joint-favourite and dug deep to win by a head on the line.
Owned by Gerard Augustin-Normand and Sylvain Vidal, Ranes is well-thought of by connections, based on her entry in the Prix de Diane. Bred by TJ Cooper, she hails from the first crop of Vadamos, who stands at Grange Stud following a promising start at stud. The son of Monsun won the Prix du Moulin, as did the exciting Maxios, along with three other Group races, while his honourable runs in defeat include finishing a close second to Ribchester in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois.
