Classic Getaway (Getaway) Wins The Bumper At Tipperary

Classic Getaway Lives Up To The Hype

Pricey point-to-point purchase Classic Getaway (5g Getaway - Classic Magic, by Classic Cliché) lived up to expectations on his first start under rules, running out a wide margin winner of Tuesday’s bumper at Tipperary.

An impressive winner of a four-year-old maiden on debut in November, the then Donnchadh Doyle-trained gelding changed hands for £570,000 and reappeared in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud, with Patrick Mullins taking the ride for father Willie. Tracking the leader for much of the two and a half mile contest, he disputed with six furlongs left to race and easily asserted three furlongs from home. Shaken up to go clear from the two furlongs marker, he scored by 15 lengths with minimum fuss.

“Classic Getaway is a beautiful horse with a great walk,” the winning rider later commented. “He's not really a bumper horse and I'd imagine he'll go jumping. Willie hasn't rushed him and let him settle in.”

Classic Getaway’s hurdle and chase bows will, no doubt, be watched with just as much, if not more, anticipation. Bred by Daniel Fogarty, the son of Getaway has a two-year-old half-brother by Kingston Hill waiting in the wings.
