Clear Winners Complete Double For Walk In The Park

Uncle Phil (6g Walk In The Park - Synthe Davis, by Saint Des Saints) drew clear to completed a quick-fire double for Walk In The Park on the opening day of the Listowel Festival.

Willie Mullins’ charge ran out an impressive winner on his second start over fences and dropped down to two miles and one furlong in the Rated Novice Chase. Ridden prominently by Paul Townend, he began to draw clear with two fences left to jump and eased clear on the run-in to score by 12 lengths.

Now two from four over fences, Uncle Phil adds to wins in a bumper and maiden hurdle last season. The useful gelding is owned by Mrs Donnelly and was bred by Kieran Cotter.

The previous race saw Meyo (5m Walk In The Park - Belle Brook, by Alderbrook) get off the mark on the third attempt for Tom Gibney and Alberta Capital Ltd.

A promising fifth on debut, the daughter of Walk In The Park was reunited with Darragh O’Keeffe in Sunday’s maiden hurdle over three miles. Racing in touch for much of the way, she was ridden approaching the second last and ran on well to lead before the next. Drawing clear on the run-in, she went on to win by six and a half lengths from Just Three (Soldier Of Fortune).

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Meyo is still green and backward. She learned plenty at Galway last day in a race that's working out well. We thought she would run a nice race today.”

Meyo was bred by Rowland Crellin and is a half-sister to Grade 1 chaser Mortlach (Yeats).
