Old Ground (Walk In The Park) Wins The Bumper At Clonmel

Debut Win A Walk In The Park For Colreevy’s Sister

The well-bred Old Ground (5m Walk In The Park - Poetics Girl, by Saddlers’ Hall) emerged as an exciting prospect when drawing clear to win the mares’ bumper at Clonmel on Thursday evening.

Trained by Willie Mullins for owner/breeder Mrs Flynn, as was her half-sister Colreevy (Flemensfirth), Old Ground was sent off a short-priced favourite to make a winning debut under Patrick Mullins. Racing in midfield for much of the way, she began to make headway from four furlongs out and was pushed along to lead approaching the final furlong. Soon clear, she ran on well to win by an easy 11 lengths.

“She has a fabulous pedigree and the Flynns are super breeders,” the winning rider said after the race. “We thought she would do that on what she was doing at home and she was very good.”

On future plans, Mullins added, “We'll see what we'll do now whether we give her a break or go for a winners' bumper. She has a lot of ability and is definitely one to look forward to, in summer or winter.”
