First Runner A Winner For Wings Of Eagles
Jolienene (2f Wings Of Eagles - Bomba, by Hannouma) provided Epsom Derby hero Wings Of Eagles with a perfect start by getting off the mark at Nimes on Sunday.
Owned and trained by Charley Rossi, the bay became Wings Of Eagles’ first runner last month, when finishing a promising third behind Oulalah, who she faced once again at the weekend. Marvin Grandin rode the bay to make all, asking her to quicken from two furlongs out and drove his mount out to deny Oulalah by a short head.
Wings Of Eagles stood his first season at Haras de Montaigu, before switching to the Beeches Stud, where he commands a fee of €5,000. His first yearlings proved popular at Deauville, where Tina Rau and Jeremy Brummitt each went to €60,000 for his colts. Brummitt’s purchase is destined for the Melbourne stable of Danny O’Brien, where connections hope he will emulate the incredible success of fellow European import Russian Camelot (Camelot).
The first Irish foals by Wings Of Eagles were also in demand at the NH sales, where they sold to the likes of Ryan Mahon, Kevin Ross, Ben Case and Ian Ferguson. Among the notable results was a half-sister to Notable Endeavour who sold for €25,000.
